Little Ears and a Big Heart

It's amazing what little ears can hear.....
Last night, we got home late and past Benjamin's bedtime from the Red/White Game (Arkansas Spring Practice). So, Benjamin was still up when the news started. They were reporting about a train and car wreck near Fort Smith, AR. Needless to say, with Benjamin's love of Thomas, the tank engine and all of Thomas' friends--when the train came on the news, he tuned in.

"Look, Daddy...a train, a train."

So, as we attempt to down play the fact that the story about a wreck with a car, Benjamin is listening better than we think. They show a picture of the demolished car.

He states, in a very sad voice..."The train crashed with the car."
And then an even more sad little voice..."Thomas crashed into that car." "Thomas crashed into that car, Mama."

We tried to explain that it was an accident and it wasn't his friend, Thomas-the Tank engine, who crashed into the car. And we didn't tell him that the driver of the car, was killed. Benjamin just couldn't get over the news story...he must have mentioned it 10 more times before we got him into bed. He ended the day, mentioning the train and car-one more time-in his bedtime prayer.
